-t Mobile Sim Cards - SIM deactivation: MTN lose over 21,000 subscribers - (5/17/2012)

Business News of Monday, 7 may 2012

MTN Ghana has reported 21,237 of its subscribers were deactivated either due to non-registration or inactivity of their invalidly registered SIMs. The company said in its first quarter (Q1) report ending March 31, 2012 that the deactivated SIM represented 2% of its subscriber base, which increased by some 2.3%. It would be recalled that on March 3, 2012 the National Communication Authority (NCA) deactivated some 1.5 million SIMs, which were either not registered or invalidly registered but had been inactive for periods between three and six months. The NCA said then that those which were invalidly registered and inactive had to be deactivated because the owners could not be reached to go regularize their registration. But the NCA stopped short of saying how many of the 1.5 deactivated SIMs belonged to each of the five telcos, saying that it had an agreement with the telcos not to publish those figures. MTN however published in its Group Q1 report for 2012 that it lost 21,237 subscribers from that exercise, which was just 1.3% of the 1,524,891 deactivated. The NCA has still not published the subscriber level figures for the first quarter ending March 31, 2012, and it is may, 2012. The March figures are expected to give an indication of which telcos lost the biggest to SIM deactivation. meanwhile the MTN Group chalked some 3.7% (6,072,000) increase subscribers in Q1, from 164,501,000 in December last year to 170,573,000 as at March 31, 2012. MTN Ghana contributed 6.1% (370,392) to the group’s Q1 subscriber base increase. MTN Ghana also reported that it maintained its market share in a competitive environment, due to attractive promotions as well as the implementation of a regional structure to better manage sales and marketing. It said noted in the report that a sixth mobile operator [Glo] launched commercial service at the end of April. meanwhile one of its promotions is a subject of ongoing legal dispute right how. The company said its average revenue per user (ARPU) in local currency increase by 3.4% mainly because of revised value propositions. Subscriber and Average Revenue per User (ARPU) numbers for Quarter ended 31 March 2012 meanwhile the MTN Group said in a statement it delivered a satisfactory performance notwithstanding continued high levels of competition in key markets. MTN South Africa contributed 13.3% to Group subscribers and delivered a sound performance in a mature market. But blended ARPU in South Africa declined 7.9% mainly due to a reduction in interconnect rates in that country. Postpaid and prepaid ARPU also decreased 6.7% and 8.1% respectively. MTN Nigeria also contributed 25.1% to Group subscribers and increased its subscriber base by 3.0% for the quarter. Its local currency ARPU declined by 1.1% for the quarter. The embattled MTN Irancell contributed 21.6% to Group subscribers. Local currency ARPU for MTN Irancell increased 3,7% due to improved network quality, and in spite of the strong legal tussle over alleged bribery and the possible US sanctions the company could face due to alleged relationship with ‘terrorist’ groups in Iran and Syria. MTN Syria contributed 3.3% to Group subscribers and its performance continued to be hampered by civil unrest in the country, which resulted in a reduction of subscriber numbers of 23,000 subscribers and a decline in local currency ARPU of 8.5%. The rest of MTN’s operations contributed 30.5% to Group subscribers, representing an increase in users of 3.5%. meanwhile, the subscriber base target for the group this year is 21,300, out of which MTN Ghana expects to contribute 950,000; Nigeria and Iran, four million each, South Africa, 2.9million, Syria, 450,000 and the rest of the operation, an aggregate of eight million subscribers.

-t Mobile Sim Cards - XCom Global Opens NYC Service Center, Makes Renting International MiFis Even Easier - (5/15/2012)

Renting a MiFi hotspot for use abroad just got a little bit easier. This week, XCom Global, the leading provider of international mobile broadband access, announced it has opened an in-person service counter in midtown Manhattan, right near the Grand Central Station train terminal. Located at the offices of Amnet travel services, 286 Madison Avenue (between 40th and 41st street) Suite 1700, the XCom desk will allow customers to pick up international MiFi kits before they travel to any of 195 countries or drop them off upon return.

It’s no secret that getting mobile broadband when you travel abroad is a difficult, expensive and frustrating process. U.S. carriers charge as much as $1 per MB when you use data roaming on your phone and, if you’re on CDMA networks such as Sprint or Verizon, you need a special world phone to even take advantage of the gouging. For several years, Xcom Global has provided the ultimate solution for U.S. business travelers, renting MiFi units with unlimited 3G service for as little as $14.99 a day.

Though consumers and businesses have always been able to rent and return XCom’s MiFis via mail, the new service desk adds an extra level of convenience for new York-based travelers. Similar XCom service desks operate out of the Los Angeles International Airport in Terminal 1F and 2F. If you’re not located near the new York or L.A. service desks, XCom will send your rental MiFi directly to your home or business with a prepaid return envelope.

The Difficulty of Buying Broadband on your Trip

This past February at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we had a chance to put the company’s service to the test. XCom Global provided us with three demo MiFi units that we picked up in Spain, though regular customers would have received them before departing on their trips. Because we didn’t get our units until the evening of our second day, we spent our first day learning just how difficult it can be to purchase reliable mobile broadband service from local providers on one’s own.

Before we left on our trip, we decided that we would purchase local prepaid SIM cards and packed a couple of unlocked GSM-capable phones. after we landed in the Barcelona airport, we looked around for a phone store, but couldn’t find one in the airport. after checking in to our hotel, we walked over to a local mall and found a department store selling prepaid SIMs from four different carriers. Staff Writer Sarah Silbert is fluent in Spanish and was able to talk to the clerk and help us select a 9-Euro prepaid plan from the Orange network.

Unfortunately, while we waited, it took our bumbling sales rep nearly three hours to activate our card, after which the Internet still did not work on the phone. the keystone cop-like clerk claimed that the Internet service would “fix itself” within a few hours, but it never did, despite the time and money we had invested.

Testing the Service

XCom Global’s MiFi comes in a convenient carrying case, which has a USB cable, a spare battery, an AC adapter with a variety of plug adapters and an instruction booklet. after consulting the instructions, we were up and running with the MiFi and pleasantly surprised to see that the primary battery came fully charged, something XCom told us it provides for all its customers.

Throughout the next four days of our trip, our MiFis proved invaluable in areas where Wi-Fi was unattainable such as restaurants, buses and the convention floor. even in our hotel rooms, the MiFi was sometimes more reliable than the hotel’s own Wi-Fi connection.

Though theoretical tests on Speedtest.net only showed rates in the 1 to 2 Mbps range, in practice, we were able to upload video files with great alacrity. on several occasions, we were able to publish 15o t0 200MB videos to YouTube in around 20 minutes, far better than the 45 minutes to an hour we’d expect from 3G, but not as good as the two to five minute times we got from the speedy connection in the press room.

Because the MiFi can support up to five devices at once, we were able to use it not only on our laptops, but also on our smartphones. So even though we were unable to get a working SIM card for one of our Android handsets, we were able to keep it tethered to the MiFi that sat in our bag and use it to check email and surf the Web as if it were directly connected to 3G.

As indispensable as the XCom Global MiFi was to us, it wasn’t perfect. the unit only has enough juice to last about three hours on a charge and, even after we held down the power button, we were never quite sure whether it was powered off or not. on several occasions, we thought the device was off, only to pull it out of our bag and see it was extremely hot, powered on and running out of juice. our second battery seemed unable to hold a charge, limiting us to just a single charge per day.

The single status light on the Novatel-made unit was extremely confusing, flashing between green, purple, blue and red colors which were hard to interpret despite the very detailed provided instruction manual. we wish the device had some sort of LCD display to tell us what kind of signal it had, how much battery was left and whether it was really on or off.

Future Directions

In Barcelona, we also had the chance to chat with XCom CEO and Seiji Nishimura, who started offering his rental service to Japanese travelers in 2008 and expanded to the U.S. in 2010. in a brief conversation, Nishimura told us that he plans to upgrade his service by the end of 2012.

“We’re going to launch a new LTE MiFi at the end of this year, soon after Novatel releases a new LTE product, because they are just developing LTE products for the the North American market, but the frequency there is different,” he told us. “Once we get a new LTE MiFi, we can get SIM cards for LTE connection from each network.”

Nishimura said he plans to offer LTE service in five to 10 countries that have available LTE and work with his new MiFi. He explained that his business is based on forming partnerships with local carriers in each of the 195 countries he serves and then including their SIM cards in the MiFis he ships to users.

All told, Nishimura says he has partnerships with more than 50 different carriers that service these different countries and he’s always looking to expand his offerings to additional areas. For example, he said he recently added Cambodia as an option.

-t Mobile Sim Cards - Samsung Galaxy S3 rumour round up and leaked images gallery - (5/15/2012)

Samsung ‘s Galaxy S2 smartphone has enjoyed huge popularity, roundly hammering its rivals in the high-end Android sector. Even HTC, which did so well a few years back, has been struggling. You know a phone is successful when it hasn't been made by Apple but is still spotted in the hands of users on a daily basis.

with the S2 doing so well it’s inevitable that Samsung will want to build on its following and everything is pointing toward an announcement of the Galaxy S3 next week. The last few months have seen a massive number of rumours that’s now turned into a tidal wave of leaked info as the release draws near.

Here’s a round-up of what we know (or think we know) about the handset that’s set to be the hottest Android smartphone release of the year…

The processor

It has been confirmed that the phone will be using the latest Samsung Exynos quad core processor which promises improved power efficiency. Clock speed is TBA but the latest leak claims 1.5GHz. That'll do the job.

The display

Rumours have pegged the screen at 4.7-inches, though it's 4.8-inches according to this service manual. seems likely but it’s not the important thing here, more interesting is the screen tech which is allegedly a non-PenTile Super AMOLED (click to see why that matters). The Galaxy Note uses Super AMOLED so it’s almost certainly going to show up in the S3, and we’ll eat our hat and gloves if it’s not got a minimum 720p resolution. Samsung would have to be insane to go up against the HTC one X and iPhone 5 with anything less. Some insiders have claimed it will be 1080p.

Software

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is a dead cert, it’s already available on the Galaxy S2. however there were stories of the S3 offering the choice of either vanilla ICS interface or Samsung’s own TouchWiz skin. We’d welcome this but it seems unlikely as Samsung has always been firm about sticking with TouchWiz no matter how often it’s criticised by the press and end users.

The price

Amazon.de is asking 599 euros to pre-order the handset. Given that it’s going to be a flagship model we expect a SIM-free price of around £500 in the UK, on par with the Galaxy S2 at release. Contract deals will vary of course but no doubt you’ll be able to pick one up for nothing in return for a hefty 24 month commitment. Vodafone and O2 have confirmed they will be stocking the handset, T-mobile, Orange and Three can’t be far behind.

The name

So far Samsung has only referred to the phone as ‘the next Galaxy’ but it seems they will be sticking with the numbered ‘S’ branding as both Amazon and Carphone Warehouse have – or had – listings for a Galaxy S3. Carphone Warehouse, after stating the Samsung Galaxy S3 was ‘coming soon’, quickly switched to calling it ‘the next Galaxy’ as well. This could mean it won’t be the S3 after all, though Samsung was using Galaxy S3 as a keyword for its Samsung Unpacked app. The model number is perhaps GT-I9300.

Release date

There’s an official Samsung event scheduled for next Thursday 3 May, inviting people to ‘meet the next Galaxy’. So that’s when it’s being announced, but when will it be available to buy? Very quickly, is the answer. Samsung could follow Apple’s lead and put the smartphone on sale right away, however supply may be an issue if it’s using a brand new processor. At the very least it’s not going to be more than a couple of weeks after the announcement as they won’t want to lose that momentum from all the hype.

The looks

There seems to be a new leaked image released on a daily basis, none of which match the last. The most believable so far is a slide from a PR presentation showing a slim phone with two-tone colour scheme which is backed up by further leaks showing the same design. Below is a selection of the pictures which have popped up online.

[UPDATE 27/4] KnowYourMobile has been sent this image, which matches the service manual sketch.

Top 12 “Ask the Expert” questions

Every day at CardRatings.com, readers just like you submit questions about credit cards to our “Ask the Expert” columnists. we try to pull the most compelling questions from your submissions, so readers in similar situations can also enjoy what we’ve all learned.

However, we can’t answer every question, so here’s a list of Frequently asked questions to help you find what you’re looking for on our site:

That answer’s different for everyone. On any given day, we may feature a dozen or more “five star” editors’ ratings from currently available credit card offers. That doesn’t mean every one’s right for you. Compare credit cards based on how you manage your money, not based on an abstract APR or on the short term value of a signup bonus. to get started, read our feature on choosing from the best credit cards.

It’s tough to guess clear credit score thresholds for individual accounts. Banks usually won’t divulge that information either. Barclaycard broke that trend by posting a minimum credit score of 680 on applications for its new “Ring” account. Beyond that, you’re better off asking fellow readers to share their experiences in our credit card forum.

The credit crunch of 2008 tore apart our old definitions of “good” credit scores. you could have a credit score in the high 700s, yet a rogue collections item on your credit report could kill your chances of qualifying for an elite credit card. likewise, a score in the 600s showing signs of improvement could help you get approved for a rewards credit card that can further build your credit history. even the statisticians who designed FICO and VantageScore will tell you that banks don’t (and shouldn’t) base their underwriting decisions on scores alone.

Although we catalog some of the best credit card deals in the market, we don’t have any sway with banks when it comes to getting applications approved. instead, we focus on bringing you news and guidance that can help you manage your financial life effectively, so you can earn that approval on your own.

Start by calling the number on the back of your card. if you can’t find your card, or if you’re not getting the help you need, try this list of phone numbers for credit card issuers. if you’re having severe issues, consider contacting your lender’s Office of the President, or take it all the way to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. then share your story on our credit card forum.

We recently reorganized CardRatings.com to help you find answers to your questions more easily. if you start with our “compare credit cards” tab, the pages listed on the left each contain an overview of each credit card type. use the site search bar in the upper right corner of any page to see if we’ve already answered the question you’re thinking about.

You’ll drive yourself a special kind of crazy if you try to goose your credit score. FICO officials have revealed that micromanaging your credit report rarely works. In general, you’ll do best if you simply review your credit report regularly, dispute inaccurate information, keep your balances as low as possible, and do everything you can to keep your accounts current.

No. Right now, a credit card isn’t what you need to build a strong financial future. be wary of any so-called lender that tries to sell you on a high-fee, high-interest credit card at this stage of your life. they just want to set you up for ballooning finance charges that will shackle you to debt for years, in exchange for a few hundred dollars right now.

No. you could damage goodwill with any lenders who aren’t already part of restructuring. A no-monthly-fee prepaid debit card from a reliable issuer like American Express can give you access to online shopping and purchase protection until your judge discharges your debts.

We’re here for you. we believe that using credit cards responsibly can save you money in other areas of your life, while helping you build a sound credit history. before venturing into the credit card marketplace, take a look at our frequently asked questions, our credit card glossary, and the archives from our “Ask the Expert” columns.

If you’ve got a stable income and you’re capable of paying your monthly bills on time, a credit card can help you manage your finances more effectively. Start with a “plain-vanilla” low interest credit card. try to make a game of using it just once per month for a small-ticket item like a pack of gum or a candy bar. before long, you’ll qualify for rewards credit card offers that can save you money on gas, groceries and travel expenses.

-t Mobile Sim Cards - Unnecto Quattro hands-on: an unlocked dual-SIM Android phone for under $200 (video) - (5/10/2012)

We stopped by Unnecto’s booth today at CTIA 2012 to see its newest Android smartphone, the Quattro. you may not have heard of Unnecto, but the company specializes in inexpensive dual-SIM feature phones that are sold off contract. That’s where the Quattro gets interesting: we’re told that the phone will cost under $200 unlocked. At that price point we suspect this is the kind of hardware we’ll see in future Android smartphones that are free on contract. of course, some corners need to be cut to get that price: the it has a 4-inch, 480 x 800 LCD screen, a 650Mhz MediaTek processor, and a 5-megapixel rear camera. you get two SIM slots with the Quattro — one micro SIM and another full-sized — but for now it only supports 850MHz and 2100MHz HSDPA (read: AT&T 3G). We were told that the company is working to get a T-Mobile compatible version, but it’s important to note that the Quattro won’t be sold from a carrier — it’ll be solely be available from third-party retailers like Amazon and Newegg when it comes out in the next couple of months.

While the Quattro by no means competes with the newest marquee phones like the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S III, it’s solid for such an inexpensive phone. the back is covered in a slightly rubbery finish that keeps the phone from slipping out of your hands, but, unfortunately, the Quattro is thick and has quite a bit of heft. Additionally, the TFT LCD leaves something to be desired thanks to its poor viewing angles and washed-out colors. On the software side, it runs a slightly-modified version of Gingerbread, and while it isn’t final, the changes aren’t for the better. Unnecto has added an iOS-like overscroll animation that (for now) ignores momentum, so it’ll do a full bounce-back no matter how fast you’re scrolling. the OS has also been modified with a setting that allows you to switch between the two SIMs in the phone. We didn’t get to test any games to push the phone’s bargain-basement 650MHz processor, but, expectedly, scrolling through menus wasn’t nearly as smooth as we’ve seen on other devices. Still, phones like the Quattro may very well be the devices that get smartphones into the hands of the nearly 50 percent of Americans who still use featurephones and dumbphones, and it isn’t a bad start.

-t Mobile Sim Cards - Update: Vodafone NZ to sell Galaxy S III this month - (5/7/2012)

UPDATE 11:50am: Vodafone new Zealand says it will offer the Samsung Galaxy S III later this month, available on its Smart Data plans.

Grant Hopkins, director of sales at Vodafone says, “We’re delighted to add another champion to our smartphone range. The Samsung GALAXY S III is one of the world’s most eagerly awaited smartphones. It fits perfectly into the premium end of our mobile line-up and provides the complete package: a sleek looking phone, intuitive usability and exceptional hardware."

Original StorySamsung Electronics has launched the Galaxy S III, which comes with a quad-core processor, a bigger screen and a host of software features, including voice recognition, the company said at an event in London on Thursday. After months of speculation about screen sizes, camera resolutions and design, the smartphone is finally here. The 3G version will be available from the end of the month in Europe before being rolled out to 144 countries total. The LTE version will be out during the summer. The hardware specification is close to other high-end Android-based smartphones launched this year, including the already available HTC one X.The Galaxy S III is powered by Samsung’s quad-core 1.4GHz processor, which is based on the the ARM Cortex A9. It has a 4.8-inch super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1280-by-720 pixels, which is housed in a shell that is 8.6 millimeters thick and weighs 133 grams."The display is really impressive," said Malik Saadi, principal analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media.Storage capacity is either 16, 32 or 64GB which can be expanded via the MicroSD card slot. there is 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera and NFC, as well.Samsung has been a proponent of NFC, so support for the technology isn’t a surprise. But the memory size and camera resolution were rumored to be 2GB and 12-megapixel. one advantage over HTC’s one X is that the LTE-version of the Galaxy S III, which will initially be released in the U.S., South Korea and Japan, will have the quad-core processor. The LTE version of the one X has a dual-core processor, while the 3G version has a dual-core processor. for other parts of the world, Samsung will release a version with HSPA+ at 21M bps (bits per second). To help all that run as long as possible, there is a 2100mAh battery."Battery life is going to be an issue. But I have been impressed with the battery life on the one X, so to me that says quad-core processors don’t come with a massive battery problem, and the size of the battery in the Galaxy S III will also help" said Ben Wood, director of research at CCS Insight. as hardware specs have become more similar, vendors in the Android camp have been trying to differentiate their products using software, and the Galaxy S III is no different. Like its predecessors, it uses TouchWiz on top of Android.Samsung has also added integrated voice recognition. The feature is called S Voice and can be used to control the phone and like Apple’s Siri ask for things like weather information. It will understand English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Korean.NFC can be used to share content such as video clips, but the feature only works between two Galaxy S IIIs."It is an issue when great functionality is restricted to specific devices. But the implementation on the Galaxy S III is a first step," said Saadi. Also, a number of features take advantage of the cameras and sensors in new ways. for example, the front camera can spot that someone is looking at the screen and as long as that is the case it won’t dim the screen. using face recognition the phone can link a person on a new photo to information in the address book, as long as there is a photo there as well."Applications are starting to talk to each other to make the user experience better," said Saadi. The Galaxy S III also inherits a number of features from the Galaxy Note, including Facebook and Twitter accounts updated in real-time on the home screen, which has helped make the Galaxy Note a success, according to Saadi."Samsung has added some clever bells and whistles on to the phone like S Voice and image recognition, but without using the phone its difficult to say how well it works," said Wood. But luring users with software isn’t always easy. Many of the new software features are a boon for advanced users who are enthusiastic about technology, according to Saadi. however, getting the message across to a typical user is really hard, he said. The Galaxy S smartphones have been criticized for a design that is not luxurious enough. The new Galaxy is also made of plastic, but that is an improvement over the previous models, according to both Wood and Saadi.there are other considerations when designing a phone — for instance, a metal case becomes a challenge when combined with NFC, said Wood.still, the overall design is a bit disappointing, according to Francisco Jeronimo, research manager at IDC."I think Samsung needs to be a bit bolder with the design of its phones to challenge the iPhone in that area, as well," said Jeronimo. following the success of the Galaxy S II, there is a lot of pressure on Samsung to put out a great phone."I think [the Galaxy S III] is going to be a massive hit for Samsung, but it isn’t as disruptive as previous devices have been because the bar is set very high now," said Wood.Even though the Galaxy S III has a specification similar to other new high-end Android-based smartphones, Samsung’s brand and marketing might will help reinforce its strong position in the smartphone market, according to Wood.Samsung now has the opportunity to grab market share while many of its rivals are struggling."It is clear that this is the perfect moment for Samsung to do that, coupled with the fact that it has a four- to five-month lead over Apple’s iPhone 5," said Wood.HTC, Nokia and Research In Motion all lost market share during the first quarter, while Apple’s and Samsung’s chunks of the market grew, according to IDC.But in the end, how competitive the phone truly is won’t be clear until the next iPhone is launched, said Wood.At a glance (specs):- Quad-core 1.4 GHz, ARM Cortex A9 processor- 1 GB RAM- 4.8-in super AMOLED display, 720 x 1280 pixels (~ 306 PPI)- 16, 34, or 64 GB has MicroSD slot- near field communication (NFC)- Bluetooth 4.0

-t Mobile Sim Cards - Four-Run Eighth Inning Drives Third Straight Augusta GreenJackets Win - (5/5/2012)

Kannapolis, NC —

The Augusta GreenJackets started the month of May on the right foot with a come-from-behind 9-6 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators in a series and road trip opener on Wednesday night.Trailing 6-5 in the eighth inning, the GreenJackets had runners at first and second after Shawn Payne led off with a single and was followed by a Ben Thomas walk. with Brett Krill at the plate in a bunt situation – and Kannapolis in a bunt defense – manager Lipso Nava elected to take the bunt sign off in a move that paid immediate dividends. with the wheel play on, Krill stroked a single up the wide-open middle to plate Payne and tie the game at six. After a walk loaded the bases, Eric Sim’s RBI single put the GreenJackets ahead 7-6. Later in the inning, Carlos Willoughby singled home a run and Kelby Tomlinson drew a bases-loaded walk to extend the Augusta lead to 9-6.the Intimidators mounted an eighth inning rally of their own, loading the bases with a single and two walks off Derek Law in the inning. Closer Cody Hall came in and used six pitches to strike Ross Wilson out on a called third strike to end the inning. In the ninth, Hall struck out two more and gave up two hits, but got a fly out to end the game with the tying run at the plate. with his sixth save, Hall extended his league lead in the category.Augusta and Kannapolis both scored multiple runs in the first inning thanks to two-out errors that extended both halves of the frame. with two on in the top of the first, Krill’s fly ball to right was dropped – resulting in two runs to give the GreenJackets the first lead. Michael Mergenthaler followed with an RBI single to push that lead to 3-0. Kannapolis answered by getting a man on with two outs on a dropped fly ball in their half of the first. Leighton Pangilinan made the GreenJackets pay by drilling a two-run homer to cut Augusta’s lead to 3-2.Kannapolis tied the game at three in the second inning when mark Haddow tripled and later scored on Collin Kuhn’s one-out RBI single. the GreenJackets went back on top in the fourth on Carlos Willoughby’s RBI double and stretched the lead to 5-3 when Kelby Tomlinson singled home a second run in the inning. the Intimidators got a run back in the bottom of the fourth with a bases loaded groundout, but Edwin Escobar bounced back to strikeout out Wilson with the bases loaded to preserve a one-run lead.Escobar allowed four runs – two earned – on seven hits and a walk in the no decision, striking out four. -t Mobile Sim Cards - SIM card found near body site - (5/5/2012)

SEARCHERS have reportedly found a mobile phone SIM card near where a body believed to be that of missing Brisbane mother Allison Baden-Clay was discovered yesterday.

Police have been searching for the missing woman’s mobile phone, hoping that it may yield some clues about her movements.

Police, who are treating the case as a homicide, have yet to formally identify the body.

Police and State Emergency Service volunteers have been scouring bushland at Anstead, west of Brisbane, after a canoeist found the body on a creek bank.

They declined to confirm today whether a SIM card had been found nearby.

"We’re not in a position to confirm whether or not a specific item of property has been located," a police spokeswoman said today.

"It’s all a matter for the ongoing investigation."

The body was found about 10km west of the Baden-Clay’s Brookfield home.

Investigators said it was dressed in clothes similar to those the mother of three was wearing when she disappeared almost two weeks ago.

Her husband, Gerard, reported her missing from their house on April 20, reportedly after she went for a late-night walk.

Police have said they are treating her disappearance as a homicide case.

Officers won’t comment on suspects, other than to say "numerous" people of interest have been interviewed.
