Our common view about customizing mobile phone ringtones is to merely change the settings of the sound that alerts us whenever there are incoming calls or text messages. this is very true, however, customizing mobile phone ringers is more than that. we can change our phone’s ringer to default call alerts and we can also set specific ringer for an entry in our mobile phone’s directory.

One thing that we can brag about today’s mobile phones is their capability of accepting different sets of ringers for every phone directory entry. with newer mobile phones, we can do a lot to customize it. Not just limited to updating the phone ringer with the latest hit, but also set ringers for individual entries we have in our phone’s directory. with as many ringtones as your phone can handle, you can also set as many distinct ringer for directory entries.

There are times when we do not want to receive calls from someone. But we are often force to and sometimes deceived by our mobile phone once it receives a call since there is no filter checking the source of the call or the caller’s phone number. there is a phone caller id, but it is limited to recording the number of the caller. however, if you did set a specific ringtone for someone whom you do not want to receive calls, then you could have ignored the call and did not bother to grab your phone.

How does this work? first, your phone receives an incoming call or text messages and then records the number of the source. it then goes to check for entries in your phone’s directory to find any existing number that matches the number of the source. If it finds anything matching the source, it then looks for other settings you have on your mobile phone. these settings include the type of ringer you set for that individual entry on your phone’s directory. If there is no specified setting, then it will use the general settings made for every phone directory entry.

Now if you set special ringers for specific phone directory entries. instead of using the general settings, it will immediately locate the special ringtone and use it as a distinct alert for that single entry. this will create a different alert every time the same number reaches your phone’s caller id.

How far should you go in setting distinct ringers corresponding to directory entries? Well, our mobile phone’s capability to handle ringtones is the only limitation. A compilation of ringtones is recommended to start this hobby. there are default tones provided on the mobile, but it would be best if you have your own ringtone collection. you can set special tones for special people whose numbers are registered on your phone’s directory.

If your phone can handle more customized ringers, then you can also set more different ringers. you can set a different ringer for your parents, friends, boss, and even your special someone. Key: Free trade won’t snuff plain smokes

New Zealand has not signed any free trade agreement that will stop plans to sell cigarettes in plain packaging, Prime Minister John Key says.

That’s despite threats by a consortium of American organisations who issued a statement over the weekend claiming tobacco firms’ logos and branding were protected by laws and international treaties.

The US Chamber of Commerce and several other organisations said the tobacco industry had “legitimate trademark protection and branding”.

Associate Health Minister Tariana Turia last week announced a ban on branded packets as part of a bid to get New Zealand smokefree by 2025.

The move was aimed at preventing young people getting hooked on smoking rather than deterring existing smokers.

Key said this morning that New Zealand had not signed up to any free trade agreement that would leave the country open to a legal challenge over plain packaging of cigarettes.

“We retain sovereign rights for lots of things and if we want to have the sovereign right that says ‘if you want to bring cigarettes into New Zealand they have to be plain packaging’ … I haven’t seen anything yet that tells me our law would prevent us from doing that.”

New Zealand was yet to sign up for the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement.

People could test their rights in court but that did not mean they were correct, Key told TVNZ’s Breakfast show.

Moves by the Australian Government to introduce plain packaging from December have led to a battle in the High Court.

The American statement was also signed by the TransAtlantic Business Dialogue, the Emergency Committee for American Trade, the National Association of Manufacturers, the United States Council for International Business and the National Foreign Trade Council.

The Government here will introduce legislation once a public consultation exercise is complete.
