ExpressCard USB 3.0 Adaptor by Lord O’Face this is an excellent USB 3.0 ExpressCard. It comes with a USB 2.0 power cable, LED indicator light when it is powered, and a relatively easy to use driver install CD. I have not tested the transfer speeds but if I get a chance I will update my review. Two issues are that the USB ports require a bit of pressure to insert a USB device and the indicator light is on if the card is inserted into the ExpressCard slot or if the USB 2.0 power cable is plugged in with no way to differentiate between those two states. Be sure to run Windows Update to find the latest drivers (I use Windows 7). 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. only USB 3 EC adapter to include a power adapter, maybe. by Mandryke comes with a smallish DC-barrel-plug-to-USB adapter to let you vampire juice off an existing USB port–which I haven’t seen with any other adapter; even considerably more expensive ones. the unit I received seems to be around 0.1mm thicker than the other ExpressCards I have in my collection, meaning it’s probably not going anywhere. what would have really put this over the top would have been including one of the small plastic EC/54 “adapters” that bulk it out in a full EC/54 slot and help keep it from wiggling back and forth. Fortunately, those aren’t hard to find on Amazon.Be aware that many laptops deliberately under-power their USB ports, esp. if disconnected from mains power; the power adapter may only add another 100-250ma to the adapter’s starting 1A power budget (assuming the EC slot is being provided full power in the first place). ThinkPads… at least the business-class ones …can be configured to either de-power USB ports on battery, or not. Dell laptops (in my experience) can’t be configured, and have a reputation for under-powering ports even when on mains power: something to keep in mind. All in all, seems like the best of the EC USB 3.0 adapters out there now. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Works as described BUT! by jkmiller42 this device does work at giving great speed over 2.0 but it fits real loose and sloppy in the slot, it will go offline at just touching it! and don’t think your going to plug or unplug a device while using the other port cause whatever your doing with the other one like transfering 900 GB of data to another drive it will go offline and destroy whatever it is you was doing, it happened to me twice! I purchased bout a week ago and it will tranfer at about 60 – 65 mb a second which is alot better than 2.0 but you’ll need a good drive or two that are sata II or better to acheive that kind of transfer rate, I would not recommend or buy another of this brand! Prometheus to be D-BOX encoded – Cineworld interview

Cineworld are now the second largest cinema chain in the UK operating 78 cinemas including the world’s tallest – Glasgow Renfrew Street. Cineworld started its D-BOX MFX seating roll out at the Glasgow site just over a month ago where movie fans have had the option to be rolled forwards, backwards, side to side, up and down (with a choice of three intensity levels) ever since.

The second Cineworld site to introduce the premium service was the O2 venue in London. on may 4th, 29 journalists were the first to experience the “most amazing, all-encompassing entertainment experience ever” during a premier viewing of the hugely successful post converted 'Avengers 3D'.

We started asking Matthew Eyre whether he has experienced a backlash from film ‘purists’ who say this is nothing more than a gimmick…

Matthew Eyre: It is almost the complete opposite. Certainly at the O2, the audience that we had in for the premiere were all journalists from film magazines and the leisure/entertainment sections of papers. they all pretty much agreed that, the first time you sit on the seat you think it is a bit gimmicky, but then you get into it and the seat becomes part of the movie. they all came out heart heartedly said they would be coming back.

3D Focus: Are people second booking D-BOX seats after the initial novelty/curiosity factor?

Matthew Eyre: We have had the D-BOX system at the Glasgow site now for about 4 to 5 weeks and the amount of people that have second booked is remarkable.

3D Focus: How long does Cineworld expect to wait to make a return on the D-BOX investment?

Matthew Eyre: As with all public companies we need a very rapid return on our investment and we will certainly be hoping for less than four years.

3D Focus: How long does it take to install D-BOX seating in an auditorium?

Matthew Eyre: It is done in stages. you first prepare the auditorium; take some of the seats out, put the power cable in, put the data cable in and the seats then go in overnight. from start to finish it takes about three days.

3D Focus: will Prometheus be a D-BOX encoded film?

Matthew Eyre: Yes and it is looking fabulous. We are extremely excited about Prometheus. We are also extremely excited about Snow White which opens on the same day, both of which are D-BOX encoded. This is all part of our Customer First process. We are trying to enhance the experience for all of our customers in many forms. Technology is just one of them. We have put IMAX in three sites so far and we are putting D-BOX in another three and then potentially another 24 or 25 after that over the next two years based on the success of the initial roll out.

3D Focus: a number of vendors are recommending developing laser illuminated projection technology to make the screens brighter for 3D. It was also quoted at the CinemaCon conference that the technology could be in theatres by the end of 2013. Are Cineworld looking into laser projection?

Matthew Eyre: I was at Cinemacon and was really shocked that some people expect laser projection to be in theatres by 2013 because none of the laser projection companies were saying that. While I was over there, I saw the new IMAX laser system and they are talking about potentially getting something out over the next couple of years. I talked to NEC and they are talking about something three to four years down the line for their laser projector. I also saw Sony’s laser projector and they are also talking about three to four years down the line.

Pretty much what all of them are saying at the moment is that all they can do is small screens. there is a lot of legislation around lasers in small spaces and until that is changed, I don’t expect there to be an appetite for it.

What was amazing is I went to Tokyo last September to look at a laser projector prototype. The room was about 30 square foot and the box was about 10 square foot with cables and wires all over it. 6 months down the line and they have got it in a box …

about the size of a normal projector. It is incredible how quickly technology moves on.

Currently for 3D projection, we have managed to get the O2 site from 2.7 foot-lamberts to 6.5 foot-lamberts by installing some 7K lamps. We have also changed the way we do the 3D. We are still using RealD but RealD have got some new technology out now that increases the light. We have got a prototype in the O2 which is an advance on the RealD XL system. We have also changed the screen to a Microperf screen which has never been done on a screen that size before. The holes in the screen are a lot smaller and it reflects a lot more light back.

3D Focus: Will Cineworld be presenting films produced at higher frame rates such as The Hobbit at the new speeds and are there associated costs with 48 frames per second projection?

Matthew Eyre: Ultimately, in order to project higher frame rates on our 2K machines, a Media Block needs to be installed. our 100 plus 4K projectors will automatically have the high frame rate capability. Bear in mind there are not many films filmed at 48 FPS but we will aim to get maximum exposure of that.

3D Focus: Preview 48 FPS showings of The Hobbit received very mixed responses at Cinemacon. did you watch it and what were your thoughts?

Matthew Eyre: I’m really disappointed with that (the negative reaction) because I think someone has been making a mountain out of a molehill. It was very disappointed to read. The Director came on and said he was going to show some footage at 48 frames per second. He emphasised it was completely raw footage and hadn’t even been graded. Then, off went a journalist “saying it’s too lifelike, it’s too this, it’s too that”. The Director couldn’t have been more outright in his statement that the showing had no cuts, cleaning, editing or colour editing so I thought that was a little bit harsh to say the least.

If you go to any of these things, the directors want to show you raw footage of stuff they have just finished making, that hasn’t been edited or been through the labs. Everybody accepts that but I think just because it was 48 frames per second one journalist jumped on it and said ouch! Which I think was very harsh.

3D Focus: The ODEON have introduced restaurant style dining – will Cineworld be doing the same?

Matthew Eyre: We already have a screening room concept in Cheltenham where we serve food at the tables and we have been making various trips to various cinemas across the water to see if there is stuff we can emulate. We are always looking at innovation and new things to try out.

3D Focus: Vue Entertainment CEO Tim Richards said the chain will screen 3D coverage of the Olympics – will Cineworld be doing the same?

Matthew Eyre: We are looking at it at the moment.

3D Focus: Is live/non live non-theatrical presentation 2D or 3D a growing part of your business? will you be screening the Wimbledon tennis again?

Matthew Eyre: Absolutely. We have a whole department dedicated towards that aspect of the business and we will be doing the tennis again probably this year. The 3D rugby a few years ago was sold out. That was tremendously well accepted.

3D Focus: Have 3D ticket sales started to settle down and mature now?

Matthew Eyre: 3D has settled down now. if you want to see a film in 3D you will do, if you don’t you will watch it in 2D. I think everybody makes both offers available.

3D Focus: Will you be extending your IMAX screen portfolio? Are you looking at installing D-BOX seating in IMAX screens?

Matthew Eyre: Yes, we are looking at expanding our IMAX portfolio. It is very much regulated so you can’t have two IMAX cinemas in the same town. IMAX doesn’t allow it so there are only certain markets you can put one in. but we are expanding it and we have pretty much locked out a certain amount of screens so we have the first opportunity to install in the UK.

I think D-BOX in IMAX would be a perfect fit. I had a chat with IMAX about that a while ago and it is something they haven’t got round to looking at because they have just gone and spent a huge amount of money on the laser projection side. That is what they have been putting all their resources into for the past two or three years from what I have been told. now they may start to look at things like D-BOX being an enhancement to their product.

3D Focus: What is the next stage of innovation?

Matthew Eyre: There are always changes and we are always looking at being at the forefront of those changes. I think we have done a remarkable job. We have got the Unlimited Card, the my Cineworld programme that nobody else has got and we were the first to jump on-board D-BOX and try that out – it’s great to be able to give the customers an alternative to the norm. there are lots of other things in the pipeline, some may work, some may not work, but we are always willing to give it a try.

3D Focus: Pearl & Dean introduced a glasses free 3D network in some of its auditoriums called Cinevation. Are Cineworld looking at introducing glasses free 3D related materials inside or outside of its network to promote its 3D films?

Matthew Eyre: It is possible. DCM, who are our advertising agency, are always looking at new things like that and I can see 3D advertising happening just round the corner. I also expect to see time based advertising where there is the potential to screen an advert in a three o clock showing different to a nine o clock showing. We can do that now because of the networks.

3D Focus: How well did the Star Wars 3D re-release and Titanic re-release do?

Matthew Eyre: Titanic 3D did very well, as well as could be expected. I think Star Wars was a little bit soft.

3D Focus: What are your expectations for Prometheus?

Matthew Eyre: It’s a bit early to say for Prometheus. We have started taking bookings for d box which is doing extremely well. It is going to be big for us.

You can pre-book Prometheus D-BOX tickets on the Cineworld website.

Will you be watching Prometheus in 2D or 3D? (if at all). please vote in our poll (top of middle column on this page).

Update Chipset Drivers – My Story

Like many people, I do not have the time or the inclination to keep up with dozens of drivers and programs. so when I heard I needed to update the chipset drivers, it was not that big of a surprise. the only surprise was trying to figure out what a chipset driver was and how to update it.

Locating Drivers Online
Like the majority of people, I thought I could just go online and do a quick search for chipset drivers and find the needed update. oh, how I was wrong Turns out there are dozens of chipset makers and all kinds of figures that frankly went over my head.

I had no idea what my processor was, how to enter BIOS, or what a motherboard was. To be honest, all the stuff sounded like an old Star Trek movie. I was just waiting for someone to say, Beam me up, Scotty.

It became fairly obvious that quickly finding a solution online was not going to help.

Calling Tech Support for Help
As much as I hated to do it, I broke down and called tech support for help. even though this cost me money, I felt like I was getting the run around. I started with Intel who was quick to pass me off to Microsoft who apparently does the drivers for the Intel chipsets. when I called Microsoft, I was told I had to talk to NEC because they were the third party software company responsible for my particular chipset. I never could get in touch with NEC.

Now, this is not to say you would have the same experience. after all, you have a different computer and you may not even have Intel chipsets, although Intel is a very popular chipset.

Getting the Help I Needed
Just when I was about ready to give up and get a new computer, a techie friend comes over for a look. She is actually really good with computers and I figure if she cannot figure it out, then it is useless.

My friend was able to identify by problem and it was indeed a problem with my drivers. She told me she could go in, look up all my drivers and get them updated for me; however, she thought it would be best if I just went ahead and spent a few bucks on driver update software.

Benefits of Driver Update Software
By investing a few bucks in driver update software, I would be able to update all my drivers as needed. Since I don’t really have time to keep track of which drivers need updating and when, I could just run this program and it would tell me when to update a driver.

Additionally, I could just click a button to download and install the updated drivers it recommended. I would not have to keep track of my drivers because the program would do it for me. I could actually keep my drivers up-to-date by spending just a few minutes each month.

-nec Accessories - The Assam Tribune Online - (5/9/2012)

Guwahati, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 HomeMain Weather Backissues Epaper Dainik Asam Contact us Rs 15,000 crore telecom project recommended for NERaju Das SHILLONG, April 24 ? with connectivity being a major road block in North East?s development, the region is veering towards the Information Highway through an ambitious Rs 15,000 crore telecom sector revamp project.

The idea is to nullify the geographical disadvantage and hostile terrain and take advantage of the information highway to boost the telecom sector which simultaneously would compliment the development of health, education, civil aviation and banking sectors.

The recommendation of the project proposal is in the initial draft stage of a working group of the National Advisory Committee (NAC), PP Srivastava, member, North Eastern Council said here today. However, the working group has already requested the Telecommunication department to have a ?separate telecommunication development plan? for the region.

According to a World Bank study, there has been a 1.4 per cent increase in GDP growth for every 10 per cent increase in broadband penetration as the information highway compliments the development of other core sector tremendously.

Under the project, the current Internet Protocol version (IPv)-4 would make way for the latest IPv-6. The State capitals of the region would get a bandwidth of at least 1,000 Gigabyte (GB) from the main link and the State district headquarters, 40 GB link speed. The connectivity link from district headquarters to the block level would be 10 GB.

Moreover, the Northeastern region would get a 10 per cent share from the National Fibre Optic Network (NFON) scheme which has an earmarked budget of Rs 20,000 crore. NFON would provide broadband services right up to the village level.

Alternatively, State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is engaging with its counterpart in Bangladesh to have an Internet gateway connecting Guwahati and other cities from Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh. The region is currently linked with the rest of the virtual world through optical fibre links coming through Siliguri, West Bengal.

?The region needs more than one link, so that uninterrupted Internet services would be made available. On an average, there are 40 breakages of optical fibre daily in the region now,? Srivastava said.

The working group also suggested that all telephone towers must be converted to the latest digitalised units. The help of the Ministry of Non- Conventional Energy is being sought to address the issue of power by fitting solar power panels.

The working group said that the information highway would help the region in terms of having better health care services, education, civil aviation and banking services, which were the other priority sectors that were discussed and suggestions noted down for improvement.

?The region?s shortfall in doctors and teachers for higher education can be addressed with the help of information technology. The civil aviation and the banking sector would also get tremendous boost once the telecom sector is revamped with the latest technology,? the senior NEC member said.

  • -nec Accessories - What Does NPA-NXX Stand For? - (5/2/2012)

Have you ever studied a telephone number? if you haven’t you’re among many who haven’t given much thought to the ten digit numbers that you own or call on a regular basis. it certainly isn’t unnatural to pay no mind to these numerals, after all do these digits really have a purpose aside from enabling you to contact others and vice versa? actually, the answer is yes. they do have a function, and understanding this can be beneficial at times.

To begin with, you should know that there are different types of telephone numbering systems throughout the world, but the ten digit numbers you are likely familiar with are part of the North American Numbering plan and are known as NPA-NXX-XXXX. although it sounds like a strange science formula, it’s simply a code for each group of numerals that are needed to complete a phone number and make it functional.

That said, here is what it stands for:

NPA- Numbering plan Area. This is more commonly known as the area code and is the first set of three digits (Note: the N and X digit rule mentioned below also applies to area-codes.). The number plan identifies the country, state and geographical region it represents.

NXX – Numbering plan Exchange. This is often referred to as the prefix and is the second set of three numbers that follow the area code. it also identifies the Central Office within the NPA. The N represents any digit from 2-9 and the X from 0-9 (I.E. 2[N]5[X]0[X]). The prefix is linked to the city and phone carrier.

XXXX- Represents the Station within the Exchange and is usually called the Line Number or the Subscriber Line Identifier (SLID). The four numbers follow the above X rule and can be from 0-9. The line-number is linked to the individual phone consumer and their personal details.

Thus, when considering the following phone number example 333-222-0000, 333 is the NPA, 222 is the NXX and 3333 the XXXX.

Now that you have a better understanding of what makes up a telephone number, whenever you need to find out specific data about a phone consumer you know what information to lookup. Sometimes you might need all the digits, while at other times you may simply require the info linked to the area phone prefix or area code. regardless of the details you may need, remember that the Internet is home to many free number-lookup resources that can offer assistance.

The Berlingo range includes L1 and L2 versions, which provide a maximum load capacity of up to 4.1m3, a 2-seater Extenso® multi-function folding passenger seat (excluding X models), 625, 750 and 850kg payloads, a 5-seat crew van, an enhanced traction XTR+ van and a platform cab for special bodywork. all 2012 Berlingo panel vans are fitted, as standard, with Citroën’s unique Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation system, which also includes Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking. At the CV Show the Berlingo range will be represented by a Berlingo Enterprise van and an enhanced traction Berlingo XTR+ van.

    2012 DISPATCH

The 2012 Dispatch includes a newly restyled exterior, which sees revisions to the front grille, exterior door handles, door mirrors and headlamps. to further improve this model’s fuel economy and to cut its CO2emissions, the 2012 Dispatch also benefits from the addition of aerodynamic panels underneath the body and a ‘volt control’ function to optimise battery charge management by the alternator.

As a result, the 2012 Dispatch, which is now available with a choice of HDi 90 manual, new HDi 95 6-speed manual and HDi 125 6-speed manual powertrains, boasts a significant fuel economy improvement of up to 6.3% and up to 15g/km emission reduction. This sees the CO2emissions of this popular panel van fall to as low as 168g/km.  Details of 2012 Dispatch range fuel economy, CO2 emissions and weights are included in the table attached to this release.

In addition, the 2012 Dispatch range now includes the new options of a tailgate on L1H1 and L2H1 panel vans and a new Grip Control option pack. the new Dispatch Grip Control option pack includes ESP, Traction Control and Hill start Assist as well as 16in Michelin Agilis tyres. With the Grip Control pack, the driver can select from four modes – normal, all-terrain, snow or sand – and this advanced anti-skid option then automatically adapts to take best advantage of the available traction. This is a valuable option for those operators requiring enhanced traction capability.

The 2012 Dispatch range includes L1 and L2 versions, as well as a choice of two roof heights (H1 & H2). these provide a maximum load capacity of 7m3. all Dispatch panel vans have a dual passenger seat and twin side load doors, and are available in standard and Enterprise trim with a choice of 1,000 or 1,200kg payloads. the range also includes a 6-seat crew van and a platform cab for special bodywork.  like Berlingo, all Dispatch panel vans are fitted, as standard, with Citroën’s unique Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation system and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking.  At the CV Show the Dispatch range will be represented by an Enterprise van.
