-motorola Accessories - Lollipop Chainsaw: Saucy zombie-scrapper shows off hands-on fun - (5/20/2012)

The new issue of PSM3 is on sale now.

Most schoolgirls would be traumatised by having to chainsaw the head off their boyfriend, but eighteen-year-old Juliet Starling is taking it in her stride. In fact she’s still got his noggin attached to her belt: he’s part sweetheart companion, part fashion accessory. sometimes she even slams him onto the corpses of her zombie cheerleader foes and makes him dance around. This is a very odd game.

with Lollipop Chainsaw Suda51 (eccentric creator of Killer7 and Shadows of the Damned) has the likes of Buffy firmly in his sights with a bloody journey through a school packed with zombies, mayhem and rainbows. Combat is based around Juliet’s high-kicking Cheerleader attacks, which herd her foes together before she lets rip with her chainsaw to cascade the battlefield with combo bonuses, blood and glitter. every kill is rewarded with a shower of golden coins that, in turn, goeson to fund the unlock of ever-more ridiculous combos and move-sets.

DANCE OF DEATH

The game isn’t all locker rooms and math class. Our recent attempt to rescue Juliet’s sister Rosalyn took place on the dancefloors of the Fulci Fun Centre. as you pirouette and leap around its gaming arcades the action is vaguely hypnotic – even if this brand of walking dead can take an awful lot of punishment, and is rather good at knocking you over onto your delicate cheerleading arse.

once the dead have been dismembered, however, part of Juliet’s mission can be to beam herself into the retro games around her, hilariously musing “This is great! I’m such a game geek!” as she does so. This triggers some strange minigames that underline both the game’s eccentricity and its wild, veering tone. One minute you’re playing a Pac-Man clone, the next you’re engaging in some neon 2D combat as Juliet scales a building. these are all unnecessary distractions from the task at hand, and universally less fun than pummelling jock zombies armed with deadhead-invigorating ghetto blasters…

The level comes to an end with a face off against a chap called Josey – who looks more than a little like The Mighty Boosh’s Spirit of Jazz. he zips around on a UFO with two skull-faced bikini ladies while wielding a keytar (like you do), and Juliet’s more occasionally-used chain gun ability has to come out to play to take him down. All set, of course, to some glorious funk music.

There’s a real danger that Lollipop Chainsaw might be something of a scrappy affair, and the visuals don’t exactly sing. but it’s built on solid combat and a somewhat endearing puerility. Juliet could still be (two, four, six, eight) someone we appreciate.

For Privet House Owners, Debut of Their Collection for The Shops at Target Was a ‘Thrill’

The Shops at Target, a unique design partnership between Target and four other upscale boutiques from around the country, debuted last Sunday, and Suzanne Cassano and Richard Lambertson, owners of Privet House in Warren and Greenwich, witnessed their hard work and dedication at the launch at Target in Torrington.“we have been working on this for so long. Your heart skips a beat when you walk into a Target and see everything you worked on for the past year,” said Ms. Cassano in a phone interview Tuesday. “It was a thrill.”the innovative big-box retailer has been whetting the appetite of shoppers for a couple of weeks with prime time TV ads showing images from the initial group shops chosen, including scenes from Privet House and a picture of the green state of Connecticut highway sign letting motorists know they’re in the tiny town of Warren.“this whole thing has been a remarkable journey from the day they first called us, which was quite shocking,” said Ms. Cassano, who, like mr. Lambertson, is a Litchfield County resident. “It truly became a joy of collaborating with them. It was such a remarkable, fun learning experience. they were really a great group of people. we loved every minute of it.”

In selecting Privet House to be one of the five specialty stores to be part of the Shops at Target, the retailer is building on its legacy of making great design accessible to all through innovative retail partnerships, according the release that first announced the initiative earlier this year. Target is partnering directly with the shop owners to co-create affordable limited-edition collections, the releases said.“when we agreed to do this, we were allowed to present the Privet House aesthetic. the collaboration went back and forth, it was just a give and take,” Ms. Cassano explained before the launch last weekend.in addition to Privet House in Warren, the first flight of the Shops at Target features collections from the Webster, the Candy Store, Cos Bar and Polka Dog Bakery. the collections reflect each shop owners unique perspective, offering Target’s customers the opportunity to experience each shop’s distinct aesthetic simply by visiting their local Target store or Target.com., according to a release from the Web site.Prices range from $1 to $159.99. the five collections total nearly 400 exclusive products and are displayed throughout the store in appropriate sections and with clear signage.the Webster, located in Miami Beach, Fla., offers men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories, also for kids and babies, inspired by the essence of Miami’s sunshine.the Candy Store, from San Francisco, caters to candy lovers’ discovery of nostalgic delights and the latest treats to satisfy every sweet tooth. Interstate Batteries opens retail store, expands product line – Your Houston News: News

Dallas-based Interstate Batteries has long been a household name for automotive batteries.

But now the battery retailer has launched its all Battery Center in Conroe that offers replacement batteries for just about anything, including iPods, cell phones, watches, toys, alarms and deer feeders.

“People have a perception that Interstate is (just automotive batteries),” said David Walters, market general manger. “But we are accessories, chargers, lights and more. If we don’t have it here, we will find it. We don’t turn anybody away.”

Located off Texas 75 just north of FM 3083, the store shares space with the company’s local warehouse and carries a large inventory of products. Walters said the store can order product for customers that might not be in stock.

According to Walters, while there is some competition, market demand has helped steer the company to a retail approach.

“Really and truly, I don’t think people know that we will do anything from a watch battery to critical power,” he said. “Our attempt here, when it comes to power supply, we want to be a one-stop shop.”

Light it up

While the all Battery Center is designed for the public need, the company also launched a business-to-business division to sell and deliver products to companies. Walters said it is amazing how many different things require battery power.

“Most people don’t even know what batteries they need,” he said.

What is key for the growth on the commercial side, Walters said, is that the retail store will deliver to its corporate customers. the company’s territory spans 11 counties, including Montgomery and Harries counties.

One product the company is offering is designed for emergency personnel. the new digital flare is unlike the traditional flares.

“Flares are flammable,” he said. “The cities are buying them because they are trying to get away from the flammable flare.”

Doug Roberts, the all Battery Center store manager, said Interstate Batteries also will have the digital flares in different colors for different agencies. He said blue flares would help fire departments designate a landing area when a medical helicopter is called to a scene.

Walters said the company also offers portable solar panels and other emergency power sources and even rebuilds batteries for power tools.

“This is so fresh,” Walters said. “There is so much to offer out there.”

Source for recycle

While the all Battery Center is focused on the new market to provide battery power supplies for most everything, Walters said the store is getting involved with the community to host recycling days. the events will allow residents to bring any battery from alkaline products to automotive and truck batteries for proper disposal.

“Every week in April, we have an event to be at for recycling,” Roberts said.

On April 28, the all Battery Center will partner with the City of Tomball where residents can recycle not only batteries but can bring other e-waste like computers, fac machines, old prescription drugs, tires, used motor oil, paper and plastic.

“Everything gets recycled,” Roberts said.

With the all Battery Center still in its infancy, Walters said the future looks bright. Currently the company has the one retail center with four employees, including a commercial sales manager that focuses on corporate accounts.

In fact, Walters said he is hoping to hire one more to help with the traffic in the store.

“It’s not just batteries, it’s everything that can generate power or assist in generating power,” he said. “I see nothing but growth.”

-motorola Accessories - Review: Lynktec’s TrueGlide Capacitive Stylus - (5/1/2012)

Capacitive styli have always been sort of a sore subject with me. between the poor construction, odd sizes and styling, and high prices of most that you would commonly find on store shelves, I have always found myself very disappointed. even some of the higher quality and more popular styli, such as the Pogo Sketch, have left me flat thanks to sub-par performance if you use a screen protector.

So what does it matter? why should I care if I can find a decent stylus or not? to answer that, just consider how long the pen and paper have been with us. even in our current digital world, there’s still a place for the old standby. Unfortunately, as good a job as the iPad does of replacing so many things, it does not naturally stand in very well for a trusty notebook and a ball point pen. this is especially true when it comes to taking handwritten notes, or annotating documents or PDFs. there are a plethora of great iPad apps for taking notes, drawing, and sketching ideas, but your finger will only get you so far with them. The iPad is begging for a great writing implement that truly complements it.

As recently as the launch of the new iPad, I held out some small hope that maybe Apple would release a beautifully designed custom stylus of their own. you know, something that just knocks everybody’s socks off. however, with the recent release and growing popularity of the Samsung Galaxy Note, I think any chance of that happening is now gone. so, it is what it is. It’s left to third party accessory makers, and Kickstarter projects to give us a writing and drawing implement worthy of the design of the most popular tablet in the world. Don’t get me wrong, though, as great new and creative ideas often come from places we might not expect, or have even heard of.

With all this in mind, I’ve recently renewed my search for a decent capacitive stylus. I started off by purchasing the Wacom Bamboo stylus, which had several very positive reviews. I really liked the weight and construction, as it fits in the hand very nicely. also, I found that the smaller capacitive rubber tip made writing and drawing a little more comfortable then the “kindergarten crayon” feel that most styli provide. however, just as with the Pogo, I was still left a little flat thanks to my screen protector. I had to apply more pressure than I am used to while writing, so I ended up with a lot of skips and stutters. this wasn’t necessarily a dealbreaker, but it definitely threw a little cold water on the experience.

Then, last week, I was offered the opportunity to review the new TruGlide Styli from Chicago, IL based Lynktec. The headline of the press release I received claimed that it was “the first product of its kind,” which immediately made me curious, but a little skeptical at the same time. As a reviewer, I’ve heard that line a time or two. however, in this case, the product absolutely lives up to its billing. Let’s take a closer look, shall we.

Look and Feel while I wouldn’t call the design of the standard size TruGlide stylus revolutionary, it definitely gets the job done, and looks good doing it.

It is 4.7″ long, which is similar to many other familiar models, including the Wacom Bamboo, as you can see in the picture below. there is also a 3.2″ model available that we’ll get to in a bit.

While the length is the same as the Wacom, the TruGlide has a smaller diameter, and is also a little bit lighter. I won’t say this is a negative, per se, as size and weight are going to be subject to the size of the user’s hands and their own personal preferences.

For instance, Lynktec co-founder Joan Ghiglieri touts the light weight of the TruGlide as a feature in their press release. for me personally, I actually would prefer a little bit more in the size and weight department, but again, that may not be the case for others. I have larger than average hands, so that may have a lot to do with my preference here.

In the looks department, I would say that Lynktec did a very nice job with the TruGlide styli. I got samples of the 4.7″ model in Executive Black and Brushed Silver, as well as the 3.2″ in Sapphire Blue, and all of them look sleek and very professional. I especially like the black model, with its gold accents, which has already found its way into my mobile gear rotation.

Also, if black, blue and silver aren’t your cup of tea, both sizes of the TruGlide are also available in Pearl White. considering that most companies don’t tend to release more than one color or design of stylus in a given model, I found the variety of choices both impressive and appealing.

Mini-Me while the 4.7″ version was definitely the star of the show for me, the 3.2″ TruGlide is definitely a unique little addition, with little being the operative word.

While it isn’t for me, I can definitely see the appeal to certain users. my five year old daughter really enjoyed playing around with it, as it was a perfect fit for her small hands.

I could also see this stylus being ideal for someone who is looking for a navigation aid for any iOS device. I have a family member who has issues with severe arthritis, and has lost some of the use and dexterity of her fingers, so something like the 3.2″ TruGlide would probably be very useful for her to use for tasks that are more difficult to accomplish.

The most unique feature of the 3.2″ TruGlide is the small tether that is attached to the back of the stylus, which allows you to attach it to your iOS device’s headphone jack.

For a mobile geek like myself, this isn’t really necessary, as I carry all my iPad gear around in a Targus case with enough room for a Bluetooth keyboard and all of my adapters, chargers, and of course, my new favorite stylus. however, for those who prefer to pack a little lighter and don’t want to lose their stylus, I could see this being a real selling point. for instance, a woman who carries her iPhone or iPad in a purse, and doesn’t want to have to dig around to find their stylus all the time would probably find this very useful.

So what else is a 3.2″ stylus that you can always keep up with and have with you good for? I have two words- Draw something. I don’t believe this requires any additional explanation.

The Tip of the Spear Who cares what a stylus looks like or feels like in the hand if it doesn’t get the job done when it glides across the glass? this is where the TruGlide styli really deliver the goods. They are capacitive, like most other styli available for the iPad. What sets these apart, and fulfills Lynktec’s promise of something that is the first of its kind, is the construction of the tip. while most other manufacturers use rubber or foam, Lynktec developed a patented woven microfiber that is constructed to be 10 times stronger than rubber.

As you can see, the look of this tip is very unique. while it is pliable like rubber and foam, it certainly does feel more rigid and durable than the rest of the competition. even though I have only used it for a week, the TruGlide definitely passes the eye test with flying colors, and seems like it will be up to the task of whatever I throw at it for a long time to come.

Looks and construction aside, where this new material really shines is when you put it into action. Unfortunately, there are plenty of styli that look good, but don’t deliver the goods when and where you really need it. after a week, however, I can say is that these styli are at their best when you are putting them to work. Without a doubt, the TruGlide is the best capacitive stylus that I have used, and the race isn’t even close.

I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, so I don’t really draw. ever. however, the TruGlide seems to work quite well for that sort of thing. The tip is just big enough to get a sizable stroke if you need, but small enough for detail. The tip material feel also helps in this regard, as you can put pressure on it, without it giving way or tearing. It also doesn’t snag or stutter, so if you apply more pressure to get a thicker line, you still end up with the same smooth operation. you can see a bit of a demonstration from this small sample of music notation from the iPad app Noteshelf, which is about as close as I get to art.

Here you can also see a conduit layout I drew up on grid paper, again using Noteshelf. It’s a little rough around the edges, but shows that you can achieve some measure of accuracy in drawing with the TruGlide.

Despite the fact that I have atrocious handwriting (which should in no way reflect badly on this product. I’m actually worse with a pen), I typically use a stylus to take handwritten meeting notes and do markups with my iPad The TruGlide is just as at home here, as it is in a more artistic setting. It is a perfect fit for apps like Notes plus that excel at delivering a simple, but powerful note taking experience.

What really sets TruGlide apart, true to its name, is how easily it glides across the screen and how consistent the strokes are. its superb performance makes it a pleasure to use. even with my Best Skins ever screen protector installed, it never missed a beat. my hand could stay relaxed while writing, and I never felt that I had to apply more than a normal amount of pressure to get all of my strokes to register. If you recall, I had some issues with the Wacom Bamboo on this score.

In the end, it was the performance of the TruGlide’s tip that really won me over. even if the length or weight of the stylus weren’t absolutely perfect for my hands or personal preferences, the patented tip just works better than any other capacitive material that I have seen or tried. If the TruGlide is as successful a product as I hope it will be, I would love to see additional models with a larger, heavier body made available. Take a large Parker Pen-style body and put this tip on it and you’re done. that would be the stylus to end all styli in my humble opinion.

The TruGlide styli are also a great value at $21.95, which is cheaper than all of the other high-end capacitive styli out there. In either size or any color, if you need a stylus for your iOS device, you should definitely consider Lynktec’s TruGlide. after one week, the 4.7″ black model became my go-to stylus, and I would be shocked if anything else replaces it any time soon. It’s hard to give more of a recommendation than that.

After becoming a bit resigned to mediocrity while trying to find a stylus that works, this has been a refreshing change. In a market where everyone else is using the same designs and materials, here is a company that came up with a creative solution, executed a solid design, and ended up building a better mousetrap. after this review, I am definitely looking forward to seeing new products Lynktec creates with this tip material in the future.

The TruGlide Styli are available in 4.7″ and 3.2″ models in Black, Silver, White, and Blue for a regular price of $21.95. you can see Lynktec’s entire selection at their website. some models are also available from Amazon.

-motorola Accessories - Woolrich's 'Elite Concealed Carry' clothing line caters to fashion-savvy gun owners - (4/29/2012)

Woolrich and other clothing companies are catering to the growing number of gun owners in America who are looking to conceal their guns in style, the New York Times reported.

Woolrich's new Elite Concealed Carry clothing line is specially tailored to accommodate weapons: their $65 chinos, for example, have a pocket for a gun behind the traditional pocket, a stretchy elastic waistband, and back pockets to keep accessories like knives or flashlights, the Times reported.

the line also features jackets and short-sleeved button downs, according to Fashionista.

“Most of the clothes I used in the past to hide my sidearm looked pretty sloppy and had my girlfriend complaining about my looks,” Kentucky-based gun owner Shawn Thompson wrote on his gun blog. “I’m not James Bond or nothing, but these look pretty nice,” he added in an interview with the Times.

to develop and design the clothing, Woolrich took recommendations from officials who work in law enforcement, executive protection, and military operations, according to their website.

More from GlobalPost: Tacoma boy, 3, shoots himself with dad’s gun

the trend is right in line with the increase in gun ownership. there were around seven million gun-carrying Americans in 2011, up from five million in 2008, according to the Times, who attribute the spike in part to changes to state laws on concealed handguns.

the 182-year-old heritage brand is not the only company tapping into the growing market of civilians who carry guns. Under Armour, the popular moisture-wicking sportswear company, is also coming out with concealed carry options, and 5.11 Tactical, one of the biggest suppliers of law enforcement clothing, is expanding their line of gun-hiding fashion.

“when someone walks down the street in a button-down and khakis, the bad guy gets a glimmer of fear, wondering: are they packing or not?” Allen Forkner, a spokesman for Woolrich, told the Times.

-motorola Accessories - Man invents ‘charging station’ - (4/28/2012)

Monday, April 23, 2012

YOUR cell phone’s battery is empty.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

If you remember you have to call someone, the device can help rejuvenate your cell phone’s battery in 25 minutes for P5 only.

“The machine functions once a five-peso coin is dropped in the coin slot,” said Mae Erra Hisoler-Sangutan, whose mother owns the store.

Mae Erra, 26, said the device is the idea of her husband, Rene Anthony, a marine engineer.

One morning in February this year, Mae Erra said she and her 26-year-old seaman husband were discussing what business they would invest their money in.

Rene Anthony, out of work, told his wife that he thought of inventing something like the Automated Tubig Machine (ATM) water vending machine and “Piso PC,” which are ordinary desktop personal computers set up inside a wooden box, giving them the appearance of a computer arcade console.

Idea

Moments later, Rene Anthony figured out that he should invent a “charging station” for cell phone users who forgot to bring their chargers. he then drew his master plan on a piece of carton.

“Di siya mahimutang kon way trabaho (He is uneasy when he is not working),” said Mae Erra, who married her husband last January.

The device, mostly made of spare plywood, was completed with the help of Rene Anthony’s younger brother, mark Kenneth, a licensed electronic communications engineer, in just a week.

Cost

The invention cost the couple about P5,000. It is equipped with a universal charger, assorted chargers that can power an iPhone, iPad, and other cell phone models, and an outlet where a customer can plug in his charger.

“Pwede sad laptop basta naa’y (It can power a laptop as long as the person has his own) charger,” said Mae Erra.

Mae Erra said their first customer was Noel, a shoe repairman. She said the people who saw it laughed in amazement.

She believes they will gain profit from the device, which has a mechanism that can control its heat.

Once Rene Anthony, who is now working abroad, returns home, Mae Erra said they will discuss when to patent their “Charging Station.”

“Kon mosikat, mobaligya mi og unit (If this device becomes popular, we will sell new units),” she said.

-motorola Accessories - Enhancements For iPhone Users With New Wireless Accessories - (4/26/2012)

Within a matter of weeks before the release of the iPhone 3G S handset, users were buoyed by the summer news surrounding a new wireless charging accessory. in an effort to catch up with their high street rivals Palm, Apple has moved swiftly to place themselves firmly in the wireless charging market.

Palm’s latest device, the Palm Pre, helped them take the idea of wireless charging into the mainstream, but their dominance in this area could be soon to end.

With the input of developers, WildCharge, an effective wireless charging solution for the iPhone is ready for release. by using an iPhone or iPod in a gel skin connector, the user can select the handset for the charger pad and carry out the process.

It is important to note that this is also compatible with a number of other major brands including BlackBerry, Pearl and Motorola. in comparison, the Palm wireless add-on is strictly exclusive to their products.

Developers have taken things a step further by introducing a universal adaptor for the iPhone that extends wireless charging ability to an additional 150 devices – an interesting device for an office or building.

Although it has already been possible for owners of BlackBerry devices to wirelessly charge their handsets, the opportunity for iPhone users to ditch the wires and docking stations has been an attractive proposition. the ideal technological solution for the consumer would be the development of a wireless charger that worked simultaneously with mobile phones, laptops and other mobile devices. however, as yet this is some way from coming to fruition.

Nevertheless, wireless charging is a useful addition to the iPhone, as Apple attempts to move its products into the 21st century. Such breakthroughs could provide the opportunity to develop a universal product, compatible with a wide range of handsets and mobile devices. however, until manufacturers reach some common ground this undeniably remains pie in the sky.
