Last week brought the world a rather tasty leak unofficially confirming that both the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation 4G are to be at last given the long-awaited Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Makeovers.

Needless to say, both devices remain pretty close to the top of the Android pile across the world.

The leak suggested that the all-important date for S2 owners will be May 14th, followed by the HTC beast two days later on the 14th – two days of course feeling like an eternity when ICS goodness is involved.

However, while T-Mobile has been happy to talk about the HTC’s future hookup with ICS, there has been no mention whatsoever of the S2 or its upcoming facelift.

No worries for HTC fans as the T-Mobile website has been found to be holding a document stating that Sensation 4G is due its OS upgrade “very soon” given that the testing phase is complete. for the Samsung Galaxy S2 on the hand, nothing but curious silence and rather sinking feeling that this particular race may not be quite as in the bag as we all thought.

Could it really be that HTC has beaten Samsung to the punch?

Perhaps, but if we take a step back 24 hours we can remind ourselves that Samsung has also just delivered to the world the biggest Android device in history and the most exciting handset of 2012 – before the iPhone 5 release date comes about of course.

Packing a quad-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.4GHz and enough bells and whistles to keep most of us going ‘til Christmas, the S3 has already sealed its position right at the top of the pecking order.

So I suppose we might have to forgive Samsung for diverting attention away from the S2 for a while, as suffice to say they have rather bigger fish to fry!

Michael Pitton of Belgrade was arrested after a Saturday morning standoff with police that shut down Jackrabbit Lane, and is now facing a charge of felony criminal endangerment.

At around 8:40 a.m. Belgrade police were called to the scene of a suicidal man armed with a handgun, sitting in a white vehicle near the intersection of Jackrabbit Lane and Glider Lane.

Pitton, 58, reportedly called 911 and said he wanted to kill himself and was armed. When a Belgrade officer arrived at the scene, he said Pitton was standing beside his van.

While law enforcement officers gathered in the area, a man walking a dog approached Pitton and began talking to him. That’s when Pitton removed what appeared to be a holster and threw it into the street and the man ran away, according to court documents. As the man ran away Pitton fired a shot into the air, police said.

When Belgrade Police Sgt. Chuck Sprague contacted Pitton by cell phone, Pitton reportedly told him he no longer wanted to live and wanted to either commit suicide or force officers to shoot him. Pitton asked Sprague to shoot him in the head, court documents state.

Sprague continued negotiations with Pitton for about an hour. Pitton could be seen entering and exiting his van and at one point fired another round into the air, court papers state. He eventually placed the gun on the ground.

A deputy and trooper approached Pitton once he put the gun down and fired a Taser at him twice. He was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital where he was evaluated and released.

Officers reported afterward that they feared they would have to act in self defense because they were worried Pitton might point or fire the gun at them.

Nearly a year after the Cumberland County rolled out the South Central Alert system, county information officer Megan Silverstrim is making the rounds to explain how the system works and encourage people to sign up.

The emergency notification system is free to residents and is designed to alert them of emergency incidents or imminent threats to health and safety.

“We’re not going to be telling you about parades or street closures,” Silverstrim said Monday night at the Dickinson Township Board of Supervisors’ meeting.

The system also won’t alert people to tornadoes, because those meteorological events come up too suddenly and often don’t give enough warning, she added.

The system is designed so someone can register his or her name, phone numbers for contact (work, home, cell), how he or she wants to be notified (email, text message, phone call), and the areas of geographic concern to him or her (home, work, children’s school, elderly parents’ home, etc.).

The system is managed by the county, but can be used by municipalities if need be.

“If you have a boil water advisory, you can call us and we can send that out,” Silverstrim explained to the board.

Any resident or business listed in the white or yellow pages is already in the system, she said, but she encouraged people to update their information on the website by listing other contact information, such as cell phones and email addresses and their specific areas of concern.

The Southcentral alert region covers Cumberland, Perry, Dauphin, Lancaster, Franklin, Adams, Lebanon and York counties.

Registration can be done online at sctfpa.org, or by calling the county office at 218-2900.

Fran B. Free is a mother and founder of “Oh Baby Foods.”  She’s been in business for a couple of years offering fresh baby food in the frozen section, but now it’s all about the pouches. Fran’s goal is for you to feed your baby the most healthy foods.

Fran says that’s why she gets most of the ingredients from local farmers.

“Being raised on a farm and loving food. I wanted something that was premium.”

5NEWS was invited along on the first day that the pouches were for sale at Ozark Natural Foods.

Oh Baby Foods recently came out with a brand new line of shelf-stable products, they include six brand new flavors that are on the shelf right now.

Mothers can rest easy knowing their babies are eating not just baby food, but premium baby food.

One convinced customer, Elizabeth Barr says her baby had an “Oh Baby” breakthrough.

“I brought it home and she’s been kind of a picky eater, and I was trying to get her to eat a baked potato and she wasn’t budging. I poured a little of the oh Baby spinach stuff on there and she started shoveling it in her mouth. It was a beautiful moment for a Mom.’’

Fran says seeing her products on the shelf has been rewarding, “’It is thrilling. The average person doesn’t realize how much goes into one package of food. The challenge and opportunities, that go into one package of food.  It’s very exciting. We’ll launch in 50 new stores this month.’’

The business is likely to stay strong to, because mom and founder Fran has another baby (and taste-tester) on the way.

Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is one of the big wig technological giants in the contemporary digital world. Casting its net over an incredible and exceedingly panoptic spread, it extends a conglomerate of mobile communication and computer utility services. Personally, I believe that this apple invites more than one bite, so to speak. it currently extends one of the most attractive earnings per share in its niche- an amazing $35. Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) is the only competitor that sits on the far end of the table with its $29 earnings per share. other competitors like Hewlett-Packard with $2.80 earnings per share watch from the sidelines. Apple’s current market cap of $582 also tells a story. in as much as I don’t advocate for numbers, these figures ralay a message of dominance and success. all said I am inclined to believe that numbers occasionally forge a misleading illusion. it would be in order to delve deeper and narrow down on the practical aspects that affect Apple’s future.

Recently, Apple’s futuristic intentions were brought to light. its goals and prospects for subsequent years awed investors in the technological space. Sources reveal that it intends to break the ceiling and hit a record $1 trillion U.S dollars in market cap. Close competitors like Google will soon get cast off from competitor lists as Apple will step into its own exclusive league. as overambitious and impractical as this may sound, the possibilities cannot be overlooked.

Critics may label me a highly opinionated investor, but I have substantial reason to believe that Apple could indeed make a breakthrough. it is quite evident that its portfolio has swelled in an unprecedented fashion over the last fiscal year. the Apple that was in 2010 and 2011 is a mere fraction of the present day Apple. This is reflected in the current sales expectations for 2013. Analysts and experts speculate that ipads and Macs will sell an incredible $16 billion and $12 billion respectively; numbers that double sales figures in 2011 which settled at $6 billion in sales for both gadgets.

One question, however, remains unanswered. how will this news affect Apple stock holders? I believe that the news will strengthen the faith that the current market holds in Apple. An increased market cap will trigger a gold rush for Apple stock. From the basic economics that I know, increased demand inevitably sparks off an exponential increase in price. This means that share prices will hit the roof and adept investors will make a winning.

With regards to the avid ambition at Apple, I have strong convictions that competitors like Oracle will resort in last ditch attempts to salvage its dwindling client base. Apple has trampled on oracle’s java with the extensively used IOS platform. as if this is not enough, Google’s Android platform is also extinguishing the few remaining burning splints in java’s portfolio. I foresee a series of lawsuits and litigation drama from competitors like Oracle and Google in the near future.

The competition is simply too overwhelming for competitors to combat on a level battle field. notwithstanding, I believe that court cases will give a clear insight on the sheer fear that plagues the very hearts of key competitors. This will in turn pass a message of triumph in the market.

Consequentially, confidence in Apple shares will magnify and share value will literally go through the ceiling.

The vertical landing and vertical take-off strategy that Apple embraces also gives me reason to believe that the technological titan is sailing in the boat of success. towards the end of fiscal year 2011, Apple made an interesting acquisition. On November 24th 2011, Apple cast its shadow upon the patent listing of Nortel Network Corporations. After ending the year in style, it commenced 2012 with a new boost of energy as it then again made an acquisition on app search engine chomp in February. the former shows that it intends to diversify its portfolio and provide its market with improved networking capabilities. This move indicates that Apple is flexible and agile-lineaments that greatly fortify confidence levels in stock holders and prospective investors. Personally, I think the mere fact that Apple’s service package effortlessly meets all the contrasting needs in the market speaks volumes about the possibilities in its $1 trillion market cap target.

There has been some tough love between Samsung and Apple. these close allies are in a heated warfare behind the veils. just recently, Samsung filed a lawsuit against Apple in South Korea which apparently happens to be Samsung’s back yard. Samsung claims that ipad2 and iphone4s purposely infringed its patents-3 to be precise. This is a mere capture from the unending soap opera between the two kingpins. there are actually 29 more cases in 9 other countries. the latest lawsuit came at the eve of a highly hyped ipad3 launch. I believe that Samsung’s purports to smother the hype and anticipation in the market through these farfetched lawsuits. Why did it file the lawsuit on the eve of an instrumental launch and not last year? This is yet another revelation of the malicious intent that trailing competitors have.

As a round up, I believe that Apple could indeed quench its swelling ambition and hit a record $1 trillion in market cap. its share value is on a seemingly uphill trend, and competitors are exhibiting telltale signs of fear and retreat.  Apple will soon and very soon for that matter shock investors.

The Pope was addressing the bishops of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. They are currently in Rome as part of their ad limina visit, which involves discussing the health of their dioceses with Pope Benedict and various Vatican departments, as well as making a pilgrimage to the tombs of Sts Peter and Paul.“Young people need to encounter the Church’s teaching in its integrity, challenging and counter-cultural as that teaching may be,” he told the bishops.Children must see this vision “embodied by faithful married couples who bear convincing witness to its truth,” but the wider Church also has to give them support “as they struggle to make wise choices at a difficult and confusing time in their lives,” the Pope said. The Pope focused his audience remarks on outlining the roots of the “contemporary crisis of marriage and the family.” This crisis is evident, he said, in the “weakened appreciation of the indissolubility of the marriage covenant” and the widespread rejection of a “responsible, mature sexual ethic grounded in the practice of chastity.” he noted that these decisions have led to “grave societal problems bearing an immense human and economic cost.” The Pope dealt first with the threat posed by attempts to legally redefine marriage. he recognized that the drive to redefine marriage was being pushed by “powerful political and cultural currents,” which require a “conscientious effort to resist this pressure.” This has to be done, he said, with a “reasoned defence of marriage as a natural institution” consisting of “a specific communion of persons, essentially rooted in the complementarity of the sexes and oriented to procreation.”“Sexual differences cannot be dismissed as irrelevant to the definition of marriage,” he said. This is why defending the institution of marriage is “ultimately a question of justice,” since it “entails safeguarding the good of the entire human community and the rights of parents and children alike,” said the Pope. Later this year, voters in Minnesota will accept or reject a constitutional amendment that defines marriage as “only a union of one man and one woman.” Pope Benedict then addressed how the Christian vision of sex and love is taught to the young. he said the bishops must “acknowledge deficiencies in the catechesis of recent decades.” This inadequate teaching has often failed to communicate “the rich heritage of Catholic teaching on marriage as a natural institution elevated by Christ to the dignity of a sacrament,” as well as the “vocation of Christian spouses in society and in the Church, and the practice of marital chastity.” he called for better instruction of both the young and those preparing for marriage, with programmes based upon the Catechism of the Catholic Church. These should also address the “serious pastoral problem” presented by “the widespread practice of cohabitation, often by couples who seem unaware that it is gravely sinful, not to mention damaging to the stability of society.” All Catholic family agencies should also give support and “reach out to” those who are divorced, separated, single parents, teenage mothers, women considering abortion, as well as children suffering due to family breakdown.The Pope identified an “urgent need” for Christians to “recover an appreciation of the virtue of chastity” which, he reminded the bishops, is defined in the Catechism as an “apprenticeship in self-mastery which is a training in human freedom.” Fundamentally, he said, the Christian understanding of sexuality is “a source of genuine freedom, happiness and the fulfillment of our fundamental and innate human vocation to love.” he concluded by telling the bishops that children have “a fundamental right” to grow up with an “understanding of sexuality and its proper place in human relationships.” – CNA/EWTN
